PrimeServ field service in action
Turnarounds and overhauls from around the world
OMV’s refinery in Schwechat, Austria, processes approximately 10 million tons of crude oil every year. Everllence PrimeServ performed a major overhaul of turbomachinery trains at the plant – one of the largest and most complex inland refineries in Europe.
Everllence PrimeServ handled the overhaul of seven turbomachinery trains together with their auxiliary and secondary systems. Two turbine casings that were exhibiting gaps along their split line were also reworked. Collaborating on such a major refinery turnaround project involved 50 contractors, 29,000 planning hours and 820,000 work hours.
Everllence PrimeServ performed a lump sum overhaul of various turbomachines during a refinery turnaround.
As part of the overhaul, the team replaced the rotating blades Stage 201 and re-engineered the turbine split line bolts from a heating system to a hydraulic system. Refurbishment of two turbine casings, including welding and machining, took place in the Everllence PrimeServ workshop in Oberhausen, Germany. The control system was also upgraded.
Due to the overhaul’s tight schedule, the 100-person PrimeServ team delivered a total of 24,000 work hours on continuous day and night shifts. Thanks to this, the project was successfully completed within the anticipated time frame, to the required quality and specifications with no site incidents.
Performing a large turnaround within 50 calendar days may be a challenge to some providers – but at Everllence PrimeServ we know we can deliver. We acted as a solution provider for a turnaround of eight machine trains:
- 2x crack gas compressors driven by steam turbines
- 2x ethylene compressors driven by steam turbines
- 2x propylene compressors driven by steam turbines
- 1x booster (multishaft) compressor driven by an electrical motor
- 1x charged gas compressor driven by steam turbine
As site and project manager we provided engineering services, supplied all spare parts, and modified components when necessary. During the turnaround, Everllence rendered in total 21,000 work hours with 53 field service engineers working in shifts around the clock.
This lump sum overhaul of an ethylene cracker covered four steam turbines with a total drive power of 50 MW and five radial compressors. The overhaul of the machine upper casings was performed at the PrimeServ workshop in Oberhausen, Germany, so our team planned transport and logistics for the move.
In total, 40 field service engineers delivered 10,950 work hours in double shifts to meet the 28 calendar day schedule.
