Why large-scale heat pumps are key to decarbonizing thermal energy
Use what’s already available – from waste heat and ambient energy to renewables. Heat pumps boost system efficiency and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Heating and cooling account for more than 40% of global CO2 emissions. Heat pumps replace combustion systems at the core of your process and drastically reduce emissions.
With higher efficiency, lower maintenance, and less fuel dependency, heat pumps are a smarter long–term investment in energy and climate performance.
Where our heat pumps are already delivering impact
Explore real-world projects delivering clean heat to cities and industry
Everllence is proving what true impact looks like: these projects alone reduce over 500,000 tons of CO2 every year – and that’s only a glimpse of what’s possible. We deliver on our promise by showing how clean heat works reliably at scale.
Aalborg, Denmark
World’s largest seawater heat pump system
High-performance district heating for 48,000 households
With a total capacity of ~177 MWth, this is the largest seawater-based heat pump system ever built. Designed in partnership with Aalborg Forsyning, it uses four heat pump units to extract thermal energy from seawater and deliver clean, efficient heating to nearly 50,000 homes. The installation reduces emissions by 210,000 tons of CO2 annually – setting a global benchmark for coastal district heating at scale.

Esbjerg, Denmark
Largest CO2-based seawater heat pump
Clean energy for 25,000 households – delivered by the sea
Esbjerg is home to the largest CO2-based seawater heat pump currently in operation. Using seawater at 1–15 °C and natural CO2 as refrigerant, the two-unit system delivers ~70 MWth of thermal output for district heating. Built in collaboration with DIN Forsyning, the installation avoids 120,000 tons of CO2 annually and proves the feasibility of natural refrigerants at scale.
Helsinki, Finland
World’s largest air-to-water heat pump
High performance, even in sub-zero temperatures
Everllence delivered the world’s largest air-to-water heat pump for Helen Oy in Helsinki. The single-unit CO2-based system supplies ~33 MWth of heat for 30,000 households – operating reliably even in temperatures as low as –20 °C. With 26,000 tons of CO2 saved annually, the project proves that ambient air can power resilient, emission-free energy systems, even in Nordic climates.

Boston, USA
First mega heat pump to produce district steam in the U.S.
Clean steam – from river to district heating and industries.
Boston is home to the first heat pump in the U.S. capable of producing ~200 °C steam for district energy and industrial applications. Drawing thermal energy from river water, the ~40 MWth system was developed for Kendall Green Energy to deliver thermal energy to a substantial share of Boston’s residential buildings, while simultaneously supplying high-pressure steam to university research facilities for industrial applications. Everllence delivered the technology behind this milestone – proving that high-temperature steam can be produced sustainably, without combustion.
South Carolina, USA
First heat pump system for EV manufacturing
Sustainable heating and cooling for tomorrow’s mobility
At Scout Motors’ new EV production plant, Everllence delivered a dual-mode heat pump solution providing ~25 MW of cooling and ~15 MW of heating. Powered by two five-stage compressors, the system meets year-round energy demands while cutting CO2 emissions by over 1,300 metric tons annually. It’s a forward-thinking setup that shows how modern factories can combine performance with sustainability from day one.

Cologne, Germany
One of Europe’s largest river water heat pump
Seamless integration into an existing district heating system
Cologne is home to Germany’s largest river water heat pump, drawing thermal energy from the Rhine to deliver ~150 MWth of heating for 50,000 homes. Everllence supplied a complete turnkey system for RheinEnergie – including three heat pump units and all supporting infrastructure. The result: 100,000 tons of CO2 saved each year, and one of Europe’s leading references for clean, large-scale district heating.
